Where to Stay in Crotone

City seafront or a beach by the fortress — the two bases that work, and the hotels worth booking in each.

Choosing where to sleep around Crotone is really choosing between two kinds of holiday. Stay in the city and you have the museum, the old town, restaurants and the evening passeggiata on your doorstep, with a sandy beach five minutes away. Stay on the Le Castella and Capo Rizzuto coast, half an hour south, and you wake up beside the clearest water in the province, in a village or resort that lives for the sea.

The properties below were selected on Trip.com for their guest scores and location. We do not print nightly rates, because on this coast they can triple between May and mid-August — follow any link for live prices and availability on your dates.

City or coast? A quick comparison

Base Best for Less good for Prices
Crotone city Museum and old town on foot, restaurants, year-round life, trains and buses The very clearest water; resort facilities Moderate; steady through the year
Le Castella The fortress, sandy beaches, boat trips, lively summer evenings Winter stays — much closes; visiting without a car Low in spring and autumn, high in August
Capo Rizzuto coves Quiet beaches, apartments and villages inside the marine reserve Eating out on foot; public transport Wide range; weekly rentals common in summer
The Sila (Lorica, Camigliatello) Hiking, lakes, cool summer nights, winter snow Beach time — the coast is over an hour away Moderate; peaks in August and on snowy weekends

Practical advice

  • Book August early. The weeks around 15 August sell out on the coast, and many resorts take week-long bookings only.
  • Check the season. Many coastal hotels and villages open only from about May to September or October.
  • Ask about the beach. “Private beach” can mean on the doorstep or a shuttle ride away, and sunbeds may or may not be included.
  • Parking. In the city, ask whether the property has parking or where to leave the car; on the coast it is rarely a problem.
  • One base or two? For three nights or fewer, pick one. For a week, two or three nights in the city and the rest by the sea works well — add a night in the Sila if you like mountains.

Flying into Crotone’s own airport? It lies between the city and Le Castella, about 15 to 20 minutes from either.

Where to stay: FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to stay in Crotone or Le Castella?

Crotone for culture, restaurants and a short stay without a car; Le Castella for a beach holiday. With a car they are only half an hour apart, so either works as a base for seeing both.

Are there hotels on the beach in Crotone?

Yes — several hotels and B&Bs face the lungomare, across the road from the city’s sandy beaches.

When should I book?

For July and August, as early as you can — several months ahead for the coast. Outside summer there is usually plenty of choice at short notice.

Are resorts open all year?

Mostly not. Holiday villages and many hotels on the Capo Rizzuto coast are seasonal. City hotels and B&Bs stay open year-round.
